Senior Scientist - Advanced Projects
Reporting to the Director of Advanced Projects, this candidate will make a significant impact on the formulation, design, and development of Fluent’s product portfolio. The candidate will be expected to identify and develop new applications, engage with collaborators and key opinion leaders, and prepare submissions for research funding opportunities. This position will also be responsible for developing and performing proof of principle experiments in support of these efforts.
Requirements and desired experience:
Ph.D. in Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field required
Strong technical writing skills evidenced by publication record
Successful grant or fellowship writing experience preferred
Applicants with experience in fast-paced startup culture highly desirable
Hands-on experience with DNAseq and/or RNAseq preferred
Experience with DNA sequencing methods, workflows, and data tools preferred
Strong communication skills

We are looking for highly motivated and innovative candidates with academic and/or industry experience to be a key contributor to our Bioinformatics team. Reporting to the Vice President of Biology, this candidate will make a significant impact on the design and processing of data produced by Fluent’s genomic analysis products. The candidate will be expected to conduct exploratory data analysis and design and execute analysis pipelines independently and collaboratively with scientists.
Requirements and desired experience:
BA/BS or MS in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, systems biology, computer science or related field
Previous experience designing and building bioinformatics workflows for single cell or bulk genomic, transcriptomic or epigenetic datasets is required; as demonstrated by published papers
Demonstrated ability to manage HPC and cloud computing environments such as AWS is required
Familiarity with standard single cell RNAseq tools such as Cell Ranger, SmartSeq2 pipeline and Seurat is a plus
Knowledge of additional single cell post-processing applications (scater, scPipe, etc.) is a plus
Hands-on experience with single cell genomics technologies (e.g. 10X, DropSeq, InDrops, etc.) is a plus
Assess and integrate new methods and algorithms for single cell sequencing data processing and analysis
Provide expertise on issues related to normalization, imputation, and analysis of single cell sequencing data
Experience designing, analyzing and interpreting single cell RNAseq experiments including comparing abundance of novel and predefined cell types and gene expression levels
Experience with software version control tools (e.g. Git)
Experience with Docker containers and workflow systems are highly desired
Fluency in at least one of the following languages is required: R, C++, Python, Perl, Java
Fluency in Linux and Linux system administration is preferred
Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with scientists across a broad range of disciplines
