Research Associate II

We are looking for highly motivated and innovative candidates with industry experience to help commercialize our technology.  Reporting to the Vice President of Biology, this candidate will make a significant impact on the manufacturing and scale-up of Fluent’s product portfolio.  The candidate is expected to work both independently and collaboratively in small groups.

 

Requirements and desired experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or related field

  • Only applicants with 2+ years of work experience in the biotechnology industry will be considered

  • Industry experience with automated liquid handlers (e.g. Biomek) is required including programming and development of new protocols

  • Experience in Molecular Biology methods (PCR, ddPCR, end-point PCR, qPCR) required

  • Product development experience in a GLP/GMP environment is highly desirable

  • Basic understanding of Illumina library prep protocols and hands-on experience preparing Illumina libraries is a plus

Business Office Manager

This role will evolve with the role and will report to the senior leadership of the company but will also be the go-to person for management and staff. To thrive in this role you will need a “no task is too big nor too small” attitude.

Electro/Mechanical Systems Design Engineer

This is a hands-on role with aspects of electro-mechanical system design, prototyping, and testing, along with general engineering support for the science team for a variety of projects. The individual will work closely with both internal and external collaborators.

Requirements and desired experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical or biomedical engineering

  • 2-5 years of experience

  • Mechanical CAD (currently Fusion 360)

  • Basic electrical design and CAD (currently Eagle/Fusion 360)

  • Programming: Python and Arduino

  • Prototyping skills: 3D printing, wiring, breadboards, etc.

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail

Senior Scientist - Advanced Projects

Reporting to the Director of Advanced Projects, this candidate will make a significant impact on the formulation, design, and development of Fluent’s product portfolio. The candidate will be expected to identify and develop new applications, engage with collaborators and key opinion leaders, and prepare submissions for research funding opportunities.  This position will also be responsible for developing and performing proof of principle experiments in support of these efforts. 

Requirements and desired experience: 

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field required 

  • Strong technical writing skills evidenced by publication record

  • Successful grant or fellowship writing experience preferred

  • Applicants with experience in fast-paced startup culture highly desirable

  • Only applicants with hands-on experience with single cell genomics technologies (e.g. 10X Genomics Chromium, DropSeq, InDrops) as evidenced by publications will be considered

Requirements and desired experience:

 

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field required

  • Minimum 2 years industry experience in applied research and/or development (post-doctoral work may serve as part of this experience)

  • Minimum 2 years of assay development knowledge and proven track record in design of novel multiplex PCR assays 

  • Significant experience designing PCR primers, especially for the production of multiplex PCR assays

  • Strong background in genomics data analysis (e.g. NGS multiplex PCR assay) using statistical software packages including R or JMP is required

  • Understanding of the fundamentals of sampling statistics and low frequency variant detection preferred

Bioinformatics Analyst

We are looking for highly motivated and innovative candidates with academic and/or industry experience to be a key contributor to our Bioinformatics team. Reporting to the Vice President of Biology, this candidate will make a significant impact on the design and processing of data produced by  Fluent’s genomic analysis products. The candidate will be expected to conduct exploratory data analysis and design and execute analysis pipelines independently and collaboratively with scientists.

 

Requirements and desired experience:

  • BA/BS or MS in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, systems biology, computer science or related field

  • Previous experience designing and building bioinformatics workflows for single cell or bulk genomic, transcriptomic or epigenetic datasets is required; as demonstrated by published papers

  • Demonstrated ability to manage HPC and cloud computing environments such as AWS is required

  • Familiarity with standard single cell RNAseq tools such as Cell Ranger, SmartSeq2 pipeline and Seurat is a plus

  • Knowledge of additional single cell post-processing applications (scater, scPipe, etc.) is a plus

  • Hands-on experience with single cell genomics technologies (e.g. 10X, DropSeq, InDrops, etc.) is a plus

  • Assess and integrate new methods and algorithms for single cell sequencing data processing and analysis

  • Provide expertise on issues related to normalization, imputation, and analysis of single cell sequencing data

  • Experience designing, analyzing and interpreting single cell RNAseq experiments including comparing abundance of novel and predefined cell types and gene expression levels

  • Experience with software version control tools (e.g. Git)

  • Experience with Docker containers and workflow systems are highly desired

  • Fluency in at least one of the following languages is required: R, C++, Python, Perl, Java

  • Fluency in Linux and Linux system administration is preferred

  • Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with scientists across a broad range of disciplines
