Scientist I/II Molecular Biology

We are looking for highly self-motivated and innovative candidates to help develop and commercialize our novel technology.  Reporting to the Vice President of Biology, this candidate will make a significant impact on the formulation, design, and development of Fluent’s product portfolio. The candidate will be expected to take ownership of projects, plan and execute experiments, critically analyze data, and interpret results, mentor junior researchers, as well as work independently and collaboratively in small groups.
Requirements and desired experience:
  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field required

 

  • 2+ years of industry experience in applied research and/or development (post-doctoral work may serve as part of this experience)

 

  • Extensive expertise in Molecular Biology methods required (e.g. digital PCR, ddPCR, plasmid cloning, qPCR, NGS library preparation, nucleic acid extraction from blood, tissue, FFPE)

 

  • Significant experience designing PCR primers using open-source software, strong preference for multiplex primer design experience

 

  • Understanding of the fundamentals of sampling statistics and low frequency variant detection preferred

 

  • Strong background in genomics data analysis using statistical software packages including R or JMP is required

 

  • Hands-on molecular diagnostic product development experience in a Design

  • Control environment preferred but not required

 

  • Results-driven with the capacity to work with minimal supervision to effectively achieve goals on time

 

  • Aptitude to quickly assimilate new information, critically evaluate data, and efficiently communicate key takeaways

 

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting capabilities, with good attention to detail

 

  • Mammalian cell culture experience and aseptic technique preferred

Technical Lead - Molecular Biology

We are looking for a highly self-motivated and innovative top-tier scientist with leadership experience to fill the critical role of Technical Lead, Molecular Biology. This individual will be responsible for strategic and technical leadership within Fluent’s R&D program with a hands-on lab-based leadership style. We are seeking a player-coach that is deeply involved in technical leadership at the ground-level. Reporting to the Vice President of Biology, the Technical Lead will manage all internal biology activities by providing leadership, strategic oversight, resource management, and the organizational framework to ensure product development proceeds according to internal timelines. This individual will identify, support, manage and develop talent among the team acting as a mentor to team members and ongoing coach for professional development. 
Requirements and desired experience:
  • PhD in Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related field required

 

  • Only applicants with 3+ years of industry experience will be considered

 

  • Extensive knowledge of genomics technologies and molecular biology assay development with industry experience launching products in these areas 

 

  • Demonstrated history of technical leadership and management experience of cross-functional teams spanning biology, engineering and bioinformatics

  • Applicants with experience in fast-paced, highly dynamic startup culture highly desirable

 

  • Applicants with hands-on experience with single cell genomics technologies (e.g. 10X Genomics Chromium, DropSeq, InDrops) as evidenced by publications are preferred

Senior Bioinformatics Scientist

We are looking for highly motivated and innovative candidates with industry experience to be a leader on our Bioinformatics team. Reporting to the Vice President of Biology, this candidate will maintain and improve upon Fluent’s genomic analysis software. The candidate will be expected to proactively plan for the analysis of a variety of NGS data types and implement cutting edge analysis algorithms into proprietary software.  In this role, the candidate will drive the development of novel quantitative strategies to analyze NGS data. Successful candidates will be driven to produce high quality results, typified by a careful analytical approach that identifies potential confounders and sources of bias and should have a strong track record of reproducible analyses and pipeline development.
Requirements and desired experience:
  • PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, systems biology, computer science or related field with a minimum of 5 years experience (academia or industry)

 

  • Previous experience as a primary author of custom analysis software for single cell RNA-Seq analysis is required

 

  • Deep familiarity with existing single cell RNA-Seq pipelines, such as CellRanger, DropSeq, inDrops, etc.

 

  • Expert knowledge of best practices for single cell methods including imputation and data normalization, deconvolution, cell type/state analysis, cell to cell interaction/trajectory inference, reconstruction of cell type-specific interactomes, spatial transcriptomic analysis and visualization

 

  • Experience developing advanced computational methods for a variety of NGS data types is desired

 

  • Fluency in Linux and Linux system administration is required

  • Demonstrated ability to manage HPC and cloud computing environments such as AWS is desired

 

  • Experience with software version control tools (e.g. Git)

 

  • Experience with Docker containers and workflow systems are highly desired

 

  • Fluency in Python as well as  several of the following languages is required: R, C++,Perl, Java

 

  • Able to communicate and collaborate effectively with scientists across a broad range of disciplines

 

  • Demonstrated track record of leading projects of moderate scope, mapping out milestones and timelines as well as managing customer expectations with minimal supervision

 

  • Hands-on experience with single cell genomics technologies (e.g. 10X, DropSeq, InDrops, etc.) is a plus

Research Associate II / III - Single Cell 

We are looking for a highly detail-oriented and motivated Research Associate to help develop and commercialize our novel technology.  We are a small, rapidly growing team so this is an excellent opportunity for a mission-driven individual to make a significant impact on the success of a young company. Requirements and desired experience:
  • Masters degree in Molecular Biology or related fields

 

  • 2+ years in the biotech industry is required

 

  • Expertise in molecular biology methods (PCR, quantitative PCR, DNA/RNA extraction) required

 

  • Experience with a range of laboratory analytical techniques (fluorescence-based assays, Bioanalyzer or TapeStation)

 

  • Experience with NGS library preparation and sequencing on Illumina platforms required

  • Experience with single-cell technology and/or microfluidics platforms a plus

 

  • Laboratory and inventory management experience a plus
